Drawn Together – Help Make Hospital Feel More Like Home is a heartfelt community exhibition celebrating the places, people and feelings that make a house a home. Created through a series of painting and mixed media workshops led by Warwick Art Gallery Director Karina Devine, the exhibition brings together artworks by members of the Warwick and Darling Downs community, each reflecting personal experiences of safety, comfort, love and belonging. Together, these works form a collective portrait of Queensland homes and communities.
Presented in partnership with the Children’s Hospital Foundation, the exhibition highlights the importance of creating warmth, care and connection for children and families facing hospital stays far from home. Proceeds raised through the exhibition support vital wrap-around services at Queensland Children’s Hospital, including play therapy, music programs, family support services and other initiatives that help make hospital feel more like home for thousands of Queensland children each year.
For as long as he can remember, Shane Donnelly has been creating handcrafted scale models of buildings and structures — beginning with cardboard and matchsticks as a child and evolving into the highly detailed works featured in this exhibition. Working from a small studio space in his Stanthorpe home, Shane uses traditional model-making techniques refined over decades of professional practice and personal passion. Using only simple hand tools and carefully selected materials, he deliberately avoids modern technologies such as 3D printing and laser cutting, preferring the craftsmanship and creativity that come from making each piece by hand.
Deeply inspired by history and architecture, Shane’s work captures the homes and buildings that shape people’s lives and memories. Each model reflects not only remarkable attention to detail, but also a fascination with the stories embedded within the places people once built, lived in and called home.
