About the exhibition:

Quiet Corners presents a collection of still life paintings by Joy DelCastillo that reflect her enduring fascination with the quiet beauty of the everyday. DelCastillo’s practice is grounded in a deep appreciation for nature, form, and colour, and in how light and shadow can transform the mood and meaning of a composition.

Through her considered use of acrylics, a medium she favours for its vibrancy and flexibility, DelCastillo explores familiar objects with an intimate gaze. Working on stretched canvas, gessoed board, linen, and more recently, stretched hemp fabric, she captures ceramics, fabrics, botanicals, and domestic items, revealing the subtle poetry found within ordinary moments.

Creating art is a transportive experience for DelCastillo. It becomes a process that dissolves both time and the self. Each painting emerges as a space where emotion and atmosphere surface unexpectedly, often surprising even the artist herself. In Quiet Corners, she invites viewers into this contemplative space, where light and shadow elevate the commonplace, and where colour and composition evoke feelings of nostalgia, curiosity, and quiet delight.
